A tense situation unfolded in Kirinyaga County on Friday as local leaders and residents stormed a police station demanding answers regarding the release of a chief accused of defiling a 13-year-old minor.

Led by Kirinyaga Senator James Murango and Woman Rep Jane Njeri Maina, the irate mob forcefully entered Baricho Police Station, demanding an audience with officers who allegedly facilitated the chief’s release.

“Who is the OCS here? I’m the Kirinyaga Senator. I want to know who the DCI is here and why he released the Giacong’e chief who is a threat to the community,” Murango posed.

The two leaders likewise inquired about the whereabouts and condition of the reportedly abused minor, poking holes in the manner in which he was released.   They similarly wanted the chief to be arrested for allegedly assaulting the victim’s sister.

“We don’t know the fate of the girl who was allegedly defiled. Who knows whether she might have been killed and why they released the chief without taking him to court? He also assaulted the victim’s sister after disclosing the matter to the public,” said Njeri.

Murango and Njeri were subsequently directed to the office of the Kirinyaga West Sub-county Police Commander who informed them that the chief was freed on a Ksh.30,000 police bond, as per instructions from the County Investigating Criminal (CIC) Officer.
