Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has said that the club’s legend Lionel Messi paved the way with the number 10 shirt at Camp Nou.

The Spain international made the statement on Wednesday after signing a new contract with Barcelona that will see him remain at the club until 2031.

Yamal, who was also handed Messi’s iconic number 10 jersey following the new deal, insisted that it is now his turn to lead the club.

Speaking after he was officially presented with the No. 10 shirt in a special ceremony led by club president Joan Laporta, Yamal said: “Messi paved the way with the number 10, and now it’s my turn.

“Every child dreams of owning things from Messi, Ronaldinho, and Maradona. I will try to continue their legacy.

“There’s no pressure. A new number, but the same goal.”
