Jeff Koinange Stuns Kenyans after Going Car Shopping During US Trip

Veteran Kenyan journalist Jeff Koinange recently got an insider’s look at how pre-owned vehicles make their way from a Washington State auction house all the way to customers around the world, courtesy of CarDot’s Anthony.

The two visited a dealer-only vehicle auction, a type of sale not open to the general public, where Anthony walked Jeff through how the business operates and what sets CarDot apart from other importers.

Did Jeff Koinange go car shopping in the US?

With roughly 1,500 cars on offer at the auction, Anthony explained that CarDot does not simply grab whatever is available. The team is selective, targeting proven, high-demand models such as Subarus, Mercedes-Benzes and BMWs. High-roof vans suitable for commercial use are also on the shopping list.

Once a vehicle is purchased, it goes through a thorough detailing process covering everything from the bodywork to the engine bay before it is offered to customers.

Cars that need mechanical attention are sent to CarDot’s in-house garage, where technicians sort out any issues ahead of sale.

The entire process, Anthony stressed, is about quality control rather than volume.

Away from the auction floor, Jeff and Anthony took a detour to inspect Anthony’s personal garage, which turned out to be a highlight of the visit.

Anthony proudly showed off a 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280, calling it his “baby” and making it clear he has no intention of selling the vehicle anytime soon.

He also unveiled a beautifully restored 1974 Volkswagen Beetle convertible, another gem from a bygone era.

The pair rounded off their tour with a relaxed drive, enjoying country music as they cruised through the Washington State roads.
