Three suspects accused of killing Mlolongo salonist Jennifer Mwende will have to stay in Machakos Prison for longer as they await to know their fate on whether they will get a cash bail or bond as the case continues.
The three, namely Evelyn Wanza Katumbu, Faith Nthemba and Phyllis Nzula, appeared before Justice Margaret Muigai where she confirmed that the court had received a pre-bail report.
Justice Muigai said that since the online platform was off and their advocates were not in court physically, the case file would be placed before the Deputy Registrar.
The judge then ordered the suspects to appear in court on February 20, 2024, when relevant applications would be made on whether they would be released on bail or bond terms.
The trio is accused of murdering Mwende on August 25, 2023 at Mlolongo market Phase 2 in Athi River East sub-county, Machakos County.
Late last year, they had pleaded not guilty to the charges and the court ordered that a pre-bail report be brought to court.
The decomposing body of the 29-year-old Mwende was discovered dumped in a pit latrine within the rental houses in September after she went missing two weeks after allegedly receiving a call from a client.
The suspects would later be arrested after police received information that Mwende may have vanished as a result of a love triangle involving Musau, alias Shady, his wife Wanza, and Phyllis.
An autopsy conducted on the body revealed that the hairdresser was strangled to death.
