A jilted woman who took to her Facebook account to allegedly malign her online “lover” and his wife after she coincidentally met them at a social gathering in Nairobi is in trouble.

Teresia Nyambura, a 36-year-old businesswoman, is now facing charges of Cyberbullying contrary to section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act of 2018.

She is accused of willfully and unlawfully sharing photos and posting negative text about her colleagues, friends, and family members, knowing it would harmfully affect them.

The suspect had met the complainants at an event where an upcoming Kiambu artist was launching a music album, but the “lover” allegedly gave her signals to sit far from him.

However, she went closer, greeted the man only, ignored his wife, and walked away.

The accused person and the 32–year–old “lover” met on Facebook and became friends, and an affair allegedly developed.

Ms Nyambura posted the photo and messages on her account on December 5 this year.

After she was traced and arrested, the suspect told police that she met the man on Facebook, and they exchanged phone contacts and started exchanging calls and messages.

They later met at the event.

She had commented that the man was living a luxurious life and flaunted a fleet of cars he had the courtesy of the woman he was currently in a relationship with.

The complainants reported the matter at the Makongeni police station, and police officers arrested Nyambura. She allegedly confessed to the police that she had posted the messages in question.

However, when she was arraigned at Makadara Law Courts, she denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi.

Nyambura was released on a cash bail of Sh20,000.

The case will be mentioned on February 27 before the hearing starts on July 10, 2024.
