Terminal 1E at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been temporarily shut off after a fire broke out in the wee hours of Monday morning.

In a statement from the Kenya Airports Authority, the fire was caused by an electrical failure but was quickly contained and no persons were injured.

KAA says the terminal will therefore remain shut as a precautionary measure and all flight operations at the terminal have been redirected to Terminal 1A until further notice.

“KAA is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all passengers, staff, and stakeholders at our facilities and is taking all necessary steps to minimize disruptions and return to normal operations as swiftly as possible,” read the statement in part.
