Kenyatta National Hospital brought a family back together after launching a public appeal on social media to identify a patient who had been admitted without any known next of kin.
The hospital shared a photo of the unidentified man on its social media pages, urging Kenyans to take a moment to share the image and help locate whoever might know him.
The circumstances that led to his admission were not disclosed, but the appeal quickly gained traction online.
How Duncan Mburu’s family was found
The breakthrough came when Ms Joyce Wangari spotted the post, recognised the man and wasted no time contacting his relatives.
She brought the family to the hospital on the morning they identified him, and the man was confirmed to be Mr Duncan Daniel Mburu.
“Heartfelt gratitude to you all! We asked you to share the image of an unidentified person, and you responded overwhelmingly. Thanks to your shares, comments, and dedication, Ms. Joyce Wangari recognized him, rallied the family, and visited the hospital this morning, leading to his successful identification as Mr. Duncan Daniel Mburu,” KNH wrote.
Images shared alongside the update showed Mburu’s family gathered around his hospital bed, their presence a quiet reassurance that he would not face whatever lay ahead alone.
Family and Kenyans React with Gratitude
KNH closed its update with a message of appreciation to every Kenyan who had shared or commented on the original post.
“To everyone who participated, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your kindness and collective efforts have borne fruit, and a family has been reunited with their loved one. Together, we have proven that a simple act of sharing can change a life. May you all be blessed abundantly!” the hospital added.
