A 39-year-old man from Kanyiriini village in Kandara, Murang’a County is seeking justice after allegedly being sodomized by a church elder.
The victim reported that the man, who also operates businesses in the area, gave him a bottle of whisky. As he drank it, he began to feel disoriented and later woke up in the early hours of the morning to discover that he had been assaulted.
When he confronted the man, the elder took him to the hospital and then disappeared.
“I believe that he drugged me before doing the shameful act. There was also a small bottle of ointment,” he claimed.
The man reported the incident to a police post, leading to the businessman’s arrest. However, the investigation has since stalled.
The victim claims he began receiving threats and was offered money to drop the case, while the businessman was released under unclear circumstances.
“One of the investigating officers summoned me to the station, where he threatened to arrest me if I refused to withdraw the case. He then handed me Ksh. 60,000 which I used for medication and the businessman was released unconditionally,” he said.
The man shared that he has been abandoned by friends, shunned by the community, and is dealing with trauma.
Kandara Sub-County Deputy Police Commander, Pauline Letangule, confirmed the incident, stating that the case was closed after the victim voluntarily withdrew it. She denied the bribery allegations, explaining that the businessman was released on police bond.
Letangule added that the case file was sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), but the documentation, including the P3 form, was deemed insufficient to proceed with prosecution.
