Police in Isinya town, Kajiado County, are investigating an incident where a lone burglar stole at least Ksh.1 million from a wholesale shop on Thursday night.
In the 3am incident recorded on several CCTV cameras installed in the premises housing the renowned ’14 Billionaires wholesale’ shop adjacent to Isinya Police Station, a masked man is seen ransacking the establishment’s back office for money.
At some point, the burglar is seen using a sisal rope to descend from the roof to the back office; he had first removed part of the roofing to gain access.
Armed with a crude weapon, the intruder is seen stashing crisp notes in a paper bag before leaving in a huff after an operation that lasted at least 30 minutes in the full glare of the CCTV cameras.
The owner, a dejected entrepreneur named Solomon Kairu who deals with foodstuff, toiletries and cigarettes, said that despite investing in security, he lost at least Ksh.1M in cash.
He explained that it was too late for him to bank the day’s sale after brisk business, and that is why he left the huge amount in the shop.
Kairu also took issue with the insecurity in the area saying this was the third time his shop has been broken into in a year.
Isinya sub-county Police Commander Patrick Manyasi confirmed the robbery saying the incident had been reported and the investigations launched.
He noted that during the rainy season, such incidents shoot up and urged members of the public to be vigilant.
