Ebubole Comprehensive School lost one of its youngest and most promising educators after Abraham Washitakaya reportedly died in hospital following a sudden health emergency at his home in Kamashia.

According to a Facebook post shared on November 3, 2026, Washitakaya was discovered unconscious inside his house on Saturday.

He was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital, but his condition worsened significantly, prompting doctors to transfer him to the intensive care unit.

He later succumbed while receiving treatment.

What makes the loss particularly painful for those who knew him is how brief his teaching career turned out to be.

Washitakaya had been in the profession for only nine months at the time of his passing, having recently been employed at the school.

Is death at time cruel?

For colleagues who watched him settle into his role and show early promise, the news came as a devastating blow.

The post announcing his death carried an unmistakable weight of grief.

“Mwalimu had only worked for nine months after being employed. At times death is cruel,” a netizen wrote, adding a solemn prayer: “God forgive us, us teachers.”

Teacher mortality rise when schools close

The tribute also raised a broader concern within Kenya’s teaching community, with the post noting that teacher mortality tends to rise when schools close, a recurring observation that has long troubled educators across the country.

The Ebubole Comprehensive School community remembered Washitakaya as a young man full of potential whose life was taken far too soon.

His death serves as a reminder of the fragility of life, and of how much is lost when a dedicated educator leaves before they have had the chance to fully shape the generations entrusted to them.
