Kenyan FKF Cup champions Kakamega Homeboyz, are set to face off against Ugandan Premier League side KCCA Football in a pre-season friendly match in Uganda.
According to CECAFA (Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations), the match is scheduled to take place at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Kampala, Uganda on August 4, 2023.
Kakamega Homeboyz assignment
Both teams are gearing up for continental competitions, as they are set to feature in the CAF Confederations Cup.
KCCA FC’s newly appointed coach, Sergio Traguil, expressed his belief that playing against Kakamega Homeboyz, who have triumphed in Kenya, will provide a proper test for his team ahead of the new season.
“This will be a very good friendly match for our teams as we prepare for the new season. And playing against Football Kenya Federation Cup winners will be a good test for us,” he stated to CECAFA Online.
Kakamega Homeboyz earned their spot in the prestigious CAF Confederations Cup after securing a historic victory in the 2023 Football Kenya Federation Cup.
How Kakamega Homeboyz qualified
In the final played at the Moi International Sports Complex, Kasarani Stadium, they defeated heavyweights Tusker 1-0. Kevin Amwayi’s crucial goal in the second half sealed the triumph, marking their first-ever major title win.
As part of their CAF Confederations Cup journey, Homeboyz have been drawn against Libya’s Al Hilal SC Benghazi in the first round.
Should they progress beyond the first round, they will face another challenge against Rayon Sports from Rwanda.
On the other hand, KCCA FC received a bye to the second round of the Confederation Cup during the draw last week.
