From the rolling hills of Kimaya village in Kong’asis Ward, Chepalungu, rose a voice that shaped the sound of an era.
Micah Maritim, also known to many as Kessit, has made his place as a household name in the Kalenjin music scene, with his educative and entertaining songs performed with the Kimaiya Jazz Band.
On Saturday, September 27, 2025, Bomet Senator Hillary Sigeivisited the legendary musician at his home in Kimaya, where Maritim has been recovering after a period of illness. The Senator shared warm reflections on their meeting, praising the artist’s enduring spirit and his significant contribution to the music world.
“From the heart of Kimaya village, in Kong’asis Ward, Chepalungu, came the tunes so sweet. Micah Maritim, aka Kessit, is a celebrated Kalenjin musician known for his inspirational and educative songs with the Kimaiya Jazz Band,” Senator Sigei wrote.
The Senator highlighted how Maritim’s humble beginnings never stood in the way of his dreams. “Despite limited formal education, Maritim gained significant recognition, travelled internationally, and remains a respected legend in the Kalenjin music industry,” he said.
Though illness slowed him down, Maritim’s spirit remains unshaken. “Micah has been unwell for some time, and this afternoon, I had the joy of spending time with him and his family at their home in Kimaya,” Sigei noted, adding that the visit was an opportunity to celebrate the artist’s resilience.
The Senator further expressed gratitude for Maritim’s steady recovery and the community’s support: “Thankful that he is recovering well, surrounded by the love and support of his family, friends and neighbours. Despite his recent health challenges, his spirit remains strong and his passion for music undiminished.” Sigei stated

Sigei concluded with heartfelt encouragement, looking ahead to Maritim’s continued influence on future generations.
“I extend my heartfelt well wishes to Micah Maritim and look forward to seeing him regain full strength so he can continue to inspire generations through his music,” Sigei wrote.
For the people of Chepalungu and the wider Kalenjin community, Maritim’s story is more than personal; it is cultural.
His songs have been a source of wisdom, entertainment, and unity, and his recovery signals hope that his voice will continue to echo through the years.
