Police in Embakasi have launched a manhunt for the killers of a 13-year-old boy in Nairobi’s Kamulu Estate.

Jaylan Njoroge was found brutally murdered four days after his disappearance, his body discarded in a thicket 200 meters from his grandmother’s home.

The family of the slain boy is appealing to the police to expedite the investigations.

“Wa kwanza aliniambia kuja hapa kwa Muthoni tujue kama ni kijana yako ambaye amepatikana, mimi nikasema tu ghai huyo ni Jei,” grandmother to Jaylan Jane Mumbi.

A neighbor, Everlyne Wambui, added, “Mtoto alikuwa amelazwa hapo, alikuwa na uniform. Wakati polisi walikuja walishangaa sana, walimfunua na kupata amedungwa kisu hapa na hapa, na alikuwa na bag hapo.”

Jaylan, a student at Ngundu Primary School and 13 years old, was last seen on Reflector Road near Maina Road, wearing his school uniform.

“Kulingana na kifo ya huyu mtoto, alikufa kifo painful sana na ni mtoto mdogo, sababu alidungwa visu mingi sana na hakuwa na viatu,” Mother to Jaylan Njoroge Nuru Jaylan said.

Led by his father, Robert Jombe, the family took us to the site where Jaylan was found. Items they believe could aid in the investigation remain in their possession after the police took the body and returned the bag, shoes, and a book that identified him to his family.

“Polisi hakuna kitu wametuambia, walisema watachunguza, wakaniuliza kama kuna mtu nimekosana naye ama unasense, nikawaambia hakuna mtu nimekosana naye,” grandmother to Jaylan Jane Mumbi said.

Father to Jaylan’s father Robert Jombe added, “Kitu naomba, ju hatujui nini ilifanyika, kama tunaweza kupata justice ya kujua nani alimfanyia hivyo na ilifanyika kwanini?”

This comes amid reports of rising insecurity in the Kamulu area.

“Kuna wamama wanarapiwa, kuna kesi ya mtoto wa miaka nne alisodomiziwa bado, so ni kumaanisha labda Jaylan alikutana na huyo mtu akitoka kwa anti yake. Naweza taka kujua sana nini ilifanyika,” Jaylan’s mother Nuru stated.

Four days after the discovery of the body of Jaylan Njoroge, there still remains a puzzle of how and why detectives left behind the bag and the shoes that were found together with his body in this area.
