People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has revealed that she is working with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Citizen TV’s JKLive show on Wednesday, Karua disclosed details of a recent meeting with Gachagua at her home in Kirinyaga last month. She stated that despite their past political differences, they have agreed to unite in a strategic alliance aimed at securing the presidency.
Karua emphasized that their collaboration extends beyond personal reconciliation, as they seek to bring together like-minded leaders who oppose the Kenya Kwanza administration to advocate for the welfare of Kenyans.
“It was a meeting for friendship and we let bygones be bygones and started a journey as brother and sister and we continue to strengthen that friendship. We pledged to work together for Kenyans and to seek other leaders and to work together with other leaders from different parts of the country who believe that Kenya needs to be rescued from the stranglehold of this rogue KK regime,” she said.
She criticized President Ruto’s administration, arguing that it has failed in its mandate to improve the economy and enhance service delivery across all sectors. According to her, the government’s policies have exacerbated economic hardships and neglected crucial sectors such as healthcare and education.
“If at all any time I speak the name of Dr Ruto comes up, it comes up as the head of the rogue KK regime. It is not so much about him, but his leadership, the entire group he is leading with and his allies.”
“They are holding Kenyans on a chokehold; we can’t breathe economically, we can’t access health, our children cannot access education, and even the capitation funds are not flowing… nothing seems to be working except for the ruling elite accessing luxury, luxury trips and splashing our money as if it is the end of the world,” she noted.
Following the rebranding of her NARC Kenya Party to the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) on Monday, Karua affirmed her commitment to running for the presidency, stating that the party’s people-centred approach would enhance her bid.
“I will run for the presidency. There are many of us from the opposition who have also declared interest and that is how it should be; there should be competition. I am however conscious that further ahead, we must unite and come up with a single candidate in order to send this clueless Kenya Kwanza government home,” she said.
