Karua: Ruto regime deliberately creating insecurity for public distraction

The People’s Liberation Party Leader(PLP), Martha Karua, has accused President William Ruto’s administration of deliberately creating insecurity in parts of Kenya, claiming the move is intended to distract the public from governance failures.

Speaking on an interview on Friday, September 5, 2025, Karua said the ongoing presence of Jubaland forces in Mandera County is part of a calculated strategy by the government.

“William Ruto and his rogue regime’s issue is deliberate. They are creating insecurity, realising that people are not with them,” she said.

Karua questioned how the government could allow foreign forces to operate in Kenyan territory unchecked.

“How on earth would you allow forces from Jubaland to occupy parts of Mandera, causing havoc and committing atrocities on the citizens and chasing them away, forcing them to leave their homes? How would you allow that to happen for over a week and keep quiet?” she asked.

She also raised concerns over Kenya’s alleged involvement in Sudan, referencing the RSF.

The former legislator suggested that the insecurity might be aimed at influencing upcoming elections in Banissa and beyond.

“Is it that they want there to be insecurity and the residents to be unable to vote in Banissa? Is it telling us this is how even Nairobi is going to be, and that we shall not be able to even conduct our campaigns?” she said.

Security apparatus questioned

Karua further criticised government agencies and officials, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and the National Security Council, for not addressing the situation effectively.

“The CS defence, Soipan, where is she? Or is she a cosmetic CS? She should be talking about it. This is a security issue. Where is the National Security Council? Does it exist? Its mandate is to ensure there is security internally and within our borders,” she added.

Karua warned that the administration thrives on creating daily scandals to divert attention from real governance issues.

“This regime lits fire every day. If we are not talking about the occupation process in Mandera by troops, we will be talking about goons in Nairobi. Today there is one scandal, tomorrow another. We must concentrate on real governance,” she said.
