Narc-K leader Martha Karua has asserted that President William Ruto cannot put an end to the ongoing anti-government protests on his own. In an interview with Spice FM on Tuesday, Karua emphasized that the President cannot unilaterally declare “enough is enough” without addressing the people’s demands.
“He is not in a position to say enough is enough. Leadership is not just a title that can be revoked; it is the people who decide when enough is enough,” she stated.
Karua argued that only the people have the authority to assess the President’s actions and trustworthiness and to determine when his actions are no longer acceptable.
Her comments follow President Ruto’s statement on Sunday, where he declared his intention to “protect the nation,” asserting that he had already provided ample opportunities for public input. He mentioned having made several concessions, including rejecting the Finance Bill, 2024, but noted that protests persist.
“I dropped the Finance Bill, invited them to discuss, but they refused and demanded I go elsewhere, and when I did, they avoided the meeting,” Ruto said during a speech in Bomet County.
Ruto warned that the situation cannot continue as it has been. “I have told them that it must come to an end. I have given everyone a chance to voice their concerns, but it can’t go on like this. The country’s welfare is more important than any group of people; we must unite to protect our nation,” he added.
