Police in Nairobi are investigating the cause of a fire that claimed the life of a five-year-old minor.

The cause of the fire, which on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, also burnt down property of unknown value is yet to be established.

“The body was asleep at the time when the fire broke out at about 4pm on Tuesday,” a police report seen by Nairobi News read in part.

Locals worked round the clock and managed to contain the fire when they found the remains of the body in one of the rooms.

They said that the County’s quick rescue response team did not arrive at the scene in time to help in containing the deadly fire.

Currently, police officers and sleuths attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are investigating whether the fire was an accident or an arson attack.

The remains of the body of the boy were taken to the City Mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

Meanwhile, in Kayole a three-year-old boy was electrocuted to death in an incident that left locals in shock.

In the incident, which took place on the morning of Tuesday, December 13, 2023, the boy was playing with his friends in the second floor of their residential house when the incident took place.

Police say that he had stepped on a live naked wire which ended his life on the spot.

“The minor was playing with his friends when he stepped on the naked wire which usually connects the structure and the main grid,” a police report seen by Nairobi News read in part.

The minor was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival and his body was taken to the morgue.

Such cases of people being electrocuted especially within slums in Nairobi County have been on the increase in the recent past.
