Ahead of their match against title-chasing Gor Mahia, KCB head coach Bernard Mwalala is urging his players to elevate their performance and prevent further setbacks in the FKF Premier League. The match is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the SportPesa Arena in Murangá.
KCB has experienced a significant decline in form, winning just one of their last 13 league matches. This slump has seen them drop from second place to 11th place on the table, now trailing the leaders by 27 points with only four matches remaining in the season.
Mwalala attributes the team’s decline to a lack of self-belief among the players. He notes that this lack of confidence has led to vulnerabilities in their defense, making them susceptible to conceding goals too easily.
At the start of the season, KCB was firmly in the title race. However, their inability to maintain their form has seen them falter in the second leg of the campaign.
Mwalala is calling on his players to show resilience and determination in the upcoming match against Gor Mahia. He emphasizes the need for a strong performance to reverse their fortunes and regain momentum in the league.
“We can still salvage our season in the next five matches. Gor Mahia is a tricky side and I know they will be keen to keep their charge alive but we want to delay the party.
“We are creating many chances but the big problem is scoring. This is really hurting us but I believe we can still do something in the remaining matches,” said Mwalala.
Police FC 1-0 Wednesday’s defeat to AFC Leopards— their first loss this year — increased Gor’s chances of clinching an unprecedented 21st title.
Gor top the standings on 63 points, nine above second placed Police FC.
