KCB FC booked their place in the FKF Cup quarter-finals with a commanding 3-0 victory over Chebaiywa Lions in a Round of 16 clash played on Sunday.
KCB made their intentions early, breaking the deadlock in the 15th minute through December Kisakah, whose unstoppable strike gave the Bankers a deserved lead.
The hosts maintained control for large spells of the match, but had to wait until the second half to extend their advantage.
In the 73rd minute, Richard Omondi rose highest to meet a well-delivered corner from Boniface Omondi, powering home a header to make it 2-0.
The two combined again shortly after, this time with roles reversed. Richard Omondi turned provider, setting up Boniface Omondi, who calmly tapped in from the six-yard box to seal the victory and confirm KCB’s progression.
Speaking ahead of the match, KCB head coach Robert Matano had warned against underestimating knockout football.
“It’s going to be a difficult match, knockout is not a league… but all in all we are prepared for any team,” he said.
Winger Boniface Omondi had also expressed confidence in the team’s chances before kick-off, stating: “We are going to play well and we expect to proceed to the quarter-finals.”
Elsewhere, Kakamega Homeboyz FC suffered a shock exit at the hands of Ulinzi Stars at Bukhungu Stadium.
The visitors struck early through Staphod Odhiambo, whose sixth-minute goal proved decisive in a tightly contested encounter that ended 1-0.
Ulinzi Stars held firm for the remainder of the match to eliminate the hosts and advance to the next round, dealing a significant blow to Homeboyz on home soil.
