Kenya Premier League side KCB FC will take on Michael Olunga Foundation (MOFA) in the round of 32 Mozzart Cup this weekend at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County.
The bankers will be keen to turn their fortunes around in the fixture following a tough run of matches recently. At the premier league, the Bernard Mwalala-led side is sitting tenth with 29 points after 22 matches played so far.
Speaking during a training session at KCB Leadership Centre, Karen, head coach Bernard Mwalala noted that there is need for synergies between the new players coming in and the rest of the squad to win matches.
“We are in a transitioning period as new players are joining the team. I need them to adapt quickly and settle in well for us to win matches. In the last five premier league matches, we have failed to win a single match which is unacceptable for a club of this magnitude. I expect a turnaround this weekend against MOFA then we can build on that win,” reckoned Mwalala.
KCB’s chances have been bolstered by the return of striker Derrick Otanga from injury and wingback Kevin Okumu but are unlikely to feature for the Ruaraka-based side.
Newcomer Goalkeeper Faruk Shikhalo who recently joined KCB from Kakamega Homeboyz made his debut for his new club in the previous match against Tusker FC and is also set to feature. Striker Philemon Nyakwakwa who joined from Mara Sugar has already played two matches for the bankers.
Midfielder Dismas Ongocho is yet to start a match for KCB, he only made a substitute appearance for the team against Kakamega Homeboyz. Meanwhile, Collins Neto is expected to lead the attack for KCB this weekend.
KCB will host new boys Murang’a SEAL on March 3 in Kenya Premier League action as the title race intensifies.
