KCB RFC assistant coach Andrew Amonde expressed optimism about the team’s rebuilding process, despite their 32-20 loss to Kabras Sugar in the Enterprise Cup final at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, which marked the end of the 15s season.
Amonde highlighted the youthfulness of the team, noting that the players are still honing their skills for future success.
“The boys gave their all in this match and I am proud of them all despite the final result. They are still young boys, they are learning and building, so we can only be proud of them. This team will achieve great things in the years to come,” Amonde stated.
KCB entered the match aiming for their sixth title and their first since 2017. Despite being reduced to 14 men before halftime, the team showed resilience, but ultimately, the sugar millers clinched the victory with a last-minute try, securing the cup at KCB’s expense for the second consecutive game.
Kabras took an early lead with a try from Lyle Asiligwa, converted by Ntabeni Dukisa, making it 7-0. KCB responded with a penalty kick by Elvis Namusasi, narrowing the gap to 7-3. Kabras extended their lead to 10-3 with a successful penalty kick by Dukisa.
Namusasi kept KCB in contention with another penalty, bringing the score to 10-6. However, a significant setback occurred when Namusasi received a red card for a dangerous tackle, reducing KCB to 14 men and leaving them trailing 13-6 at the break.
In the second half, Kabras’ Dukisa scored another try and converted it, extending their lead to 20-6. KCB fought back with a try from Shaban Mohamed, converted by Festus Siashi, but Kabras restored their lead through James Olela’s try, making it 25-13. KCB added another try, converted by Levy Amunga, closing the gap to 25-20.
However, Kabras sealed their victory with a converted try in the final minutes, ensuring they walked away with the cup for the third consecutive year.
