In a significant step towards improving transportation for residents of Thika, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has initiated the construction of a 2.4-kilometre road that will connect Jerusalem and Kamagambo villages to the busy Thika-Garissa Road.
This project aims to facilitate the movement of goods and people, addressing the long-standing challenges faced by locals who have struggled to transport their farm produce to market due to the poor condition of the road.
During the launch of various military projects in preparation for KDF Day at Thika Garrisons, Brigadier Victor Mburu announced that the road will be upgraded to motorable standards, alleviating the difficulties experienced by the community.
He emphasized that this initiative will stimulate socio-economic growth in the semi-arid area of Gatuanyaga Ward, as improved road access is expected to attract investments and encourage landowners to develop their properties.
“We will undertake murraming, grading, and compaction to enhance the lives of the community around us,” stated Mburu. He also mentioned plans to construct an additional road within the same area to further uplift local living standards.
Brigadier Joseph Mutua supported Mburu’s comments, highlighting that the rehabilitation efforts will include the installation of modern drainage systems to ensure effective water flow during rainy seasons, thereby protecting residents from potential flooding disasters.
