Nakuru deputy Governor David Kones has told off a section of Kenyans questioning the absence of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.
“Those talking are merely doing it to get what they want from their masters. But as Nakuru County our work is to deliver without any noise,” said Kones.
Speaking at Nyayo gardens when he commissioned a drilling rig for the county, Kones said that Kihika is on legitimate maternity leave and should not be used to attack her.
“It is very shameful for some people to discuss governor Kihika in a demeaning manner, giving birth is a natural thing and should not be used to fight her. Let people be respectful and give her time to complete her leave before she resumes duty,” he said.
He said county government delivery programs are going on smoothly and has not been affected by her absence from the county. He promised that the county leadership will continue to discharge the mandate she delegated to them.
This week, women leaders condemned the public scrutiny of governor Kihika, terming it as intolerance to a new mother.
The leaders led by Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda appealed to the public to exercise patience, citing that women navigate a tough balancing act between work and family.
“The journey to motherhood is difficult; it brings post-medical issues. Her absence has been caused by unforeseen circumstances. The nation should be patient and exercise empathy,” the leaders said.
