Hakizimana Gervais, the coach of the late world marathon runner Kelvin Kiptum is set to be laid to rest on Wednesday at the Rusororo Cemetery in Kigali, Rwanda.

Hakizimana’s funeral service which began on Tuesday, will be concluded today with a burial service.

He tragically died in a road accident along the Elgeyo Marakwet-Ravine road on February 11, 2024, that also claimed the life of Kiptum and left an injured female passenger.

According to an autopsy report conducted by pathologist Dr. Benson Macharia, the deceased died as a result of a head injury. However, his family would later reject the results citing some inconsistencies.

“When we viewed him, he did not have fractures at all. We therefore reject this report,” the deceased’s niece Sandrine said.

Kiptum is set to be laid to rest at his home on Friday after the completion of the construction of his family house.
