Kelvin Kiptum’s widow Asenath Rotich has revealed that plans were underway to tie the knot with her late husband who died in a car crash.
In an emotional tribute at Kiptum’s funeral service at Chepkorio showgrounds in Keiyo South, the bereaved wife disclosed that they were supposed to get married in April this year.
“We have been planning for a big day to tie our knots in a colourful wedding ceremony in April 2024, but God’s plans are greater. I will still make my vows of love even in your rest,” Rotich tearfully recounted.
In her tribute, Rotich described the late Kiptum as ‘the best husband and father’.
“You have been the best husband and father to our children. I will clearly miss your company. Till we meet again my love. Dance with the angels,” she said.
She further promised to master the strength to raise their two children.
“I promise to gather my strength for the sake of our children. I hope in the spirit world you will inspire me to stand as a pillar to our children,” Rotich went on.
Kiptum died in a grisly road accident after his car veered off the road and hit a tree on February 11.
President William Ruto and World Athletics head Sebastian Coe were among the dignitaries who graced the funeral.
Kiptum’s Rwandan coach Gervais Hakizimana, 36, also died in the crash.
Hakizimana, who had trained Kiptum since 2019, was laid to rest in the Rwandan capital, Kigali on Wednesday.
