Dr. Andrew Mulwa, the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) has won the African Governance Award 2024.

Mulwa was feted at the 2024 African Governance Conference and Gala Award ceremony held in Mauritius on February 8, 2024, where the authority received recognition as the “Most Outstanding Medical Supplies Authority across Africa.”

“Reflecting on my humble beginnings in a dusty village, I dedicate this award to the pupils and students of Watuka Primary School in Makueni county, where I received my education. I hope to inspire them and demonstrate that success is attainable regardless of one’s background,” Mulwa said in his acceptance speech.

He hailed KEMSA staff, and the government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Health for outstanding resilience when the authority has faced challenges.

“Through perseverance, we ensured the supply of essential Medical Products and Technologies to the people of the Republic of Kenya,” said the CEO.

In a congratulatory message to Mulwa, KEMSA Board Chair Irungu Nyakera expressed the authority’s commitment to serving Kenyans diligently.

“KEMSA remains committed to setting standards of excellence in healthcare provision, both locally and internationally,” stated Nyakera.

In a letter sent to Mulwa in January, the Business Executive Media Group, who are the organisers of the event, said Mulwa’s recognition was reached after nomination by the African public, and authentication of his nomination claims with regards to his conduct, performance and impact.

Dr. Mulwa was appointed KEMSA CEO in May 2023.
