Kenya has condemned the Friday night terror attack at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia, which claimed the lives of at least 90 people and left over 100 others injured.

In a statement on X on Saturday, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi expressed deep sympathies for the victims, labeling the attack senseless and barbaric.

“The senseless attack carried out at Crocus City near Moscow on 22nd March 2024 is barbaric and counter to all fundamental principles of our shared humanity. We convey our deep sympathies to all those affected by this heinous act,” said Mudavadi.

“In these difficult circumstances, Kenya stands in solidarity with the resilient Peoples and Government of Russia and hopes for a quick recovery to all affected by this vile attack.“

The Prime CS likewise underscored Kenya’s unwavering condemnation of acts of terrorism and violent extremism.

“My brother and counterpart, H.E. Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, be assured that Kenya strongly and unequivocally condemns this atrocious act and stands with you in mourning the loss of innocent lives,” he said.

“Acts of terrorism and violent extremism are unjustifiable and inexcusable; they are an assault on humanity’s collective moral consciousness.”

According to Reuters, camouflage-clad gunmen opened fire with automatic weapons at concertgoers at the hall in the attack reportedly claimed by the Islamic State (ISIS).

The gunmen sprayed civilians with bullets just before Soviet-era rock group “Picnic” was to perform to a full house at the 6,200-seat the Crocus City Hall just west of Moscow.

Verified video showed people taking their seats in the hall, then rushing for the exits as repeated gunfire echoed above screams.

Other videos showed men shooting at groups of people. Some victims lay motionless in pools of blood.
