The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast cold weather and rainfall in several parts of the country on Monday, June 29, 2026, with conditions expected to vary across regions.

In its daily weather update, the department said some areas will experience intermittent cloud cover, cold conditions and scattered showers, while others will remain mainly dry with sunny intervals.

Cold, cloudy conditions

According to the forecast, intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are expected over parts of the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, as well as sections of the southeastern lowlands.

“These counties include: NYERI, MURANGA, KIRINYAGA, EMBU, MERU, KIAMBU, THARAKA NITHI, LAIKIPIA, NYANDARUA, and NAIROBI,” Kenya Met stated.

These areas include Nairobi and surrounding counties, where residents are likely to experience chilly mornings and partly cloudy skies breaking into sunny intervals later in the day.

Rain in selected areas

The Met Department also indicated that showers and thunderstorms are expected in some parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin, especially during the afternoon.

Other regions are expected to receive light showers, while some counties will remain mainly sunny throughout the day.

“These counties include: KAKAMEGA, VIHIGA, BUSIA, BUNGOMA, KISUMU, KISII, NYAMIRA, MIGORI, SIAYA, HOMABAY, KERICHO, NANDI, BOMET, NAKURU, ELGEYO MARAKWET, WEST POKOT, BARINGO, UASIN GISHU, TRANS-NZOIA, and NAROK,” the agency wrote.

Despite the mixed conditions, most of North Eastern and parts of North Western Kenya are expected to remain dry with sunny intervals.

Strong winds advisory

The department further warned of strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) in parts of North Eastern, South Eastern Lowlands and Coastal counties.

Coastal regions, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale, are expected to experience strong winds throughout the day, alongside sunny intervals and isolated light showers in some areas.

Residents in affected regions have been advised to take necessary precautions, especially those engaging in outdoor or marine activities.

Major towns are also expected to experience varying conditions, with Nairobi forecast to be partly cloudy with sunny intervals and possible showers in the afternoon.

Other towns such as Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisumu and Kericho are expected to experience sunny intervals, with chances of afternoon showers or thunderstorms in select areas.

Lodwar, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera will largely remain sunny throughout the day.
