The Department of Neglected Diseases in the Ministry of Health is now seeking a clean bill of health from the World Health Organization regarding the prevalence of sleeping sickness disease in Kenya.
Dr Wyckliff Omondi from the MOH Department of Neglected Diseases says Kenya is now recording very few cases of the disease.
He says the disease was prevalent in six counties namely Busia, Narok, Migori, Homabay, Bungoma and Siaya but now no new cases are being reported.
Dr Omondi says they have also managed to control Tse Tse flies which is the main vector spreading the disease.
Speaking in Kisumu during a forum to validate the report to be presented to the WHO he says the last case of sleeping sickness in Kenya was reported last in 2009.
Dr Omondi says the ministry will however continue to carry out surveillance since some neighboring countries like Ethiopia and Tanzania are still reporting the disease.
