Kenya Power Company is now seeking to partner with various women groups so as to raise awareness on procurement opportunities available for them in the company.

Kenya Power on Thursday said they have noted that women continue to lag behind in the uptake of procurement opportunities.

The partnership will also include sensitizing women on procurement processes, which have been attributed to low uptake of tenders allocted to women, youth and persons with disabilities under the AGPO program.

According to Kenya Power, during the last financial year it set aside sh 1.6 billion of its procurement budget for women, youth and PWDs tenders out of which only sh 480 million was taken up.

“The low uptake is due to reasons ranging from lack of duly registered and compliant business enterprises, low understanding of the e-procurement system and failure to ensure that the goods targeted for procurement meet the requisite acceptance tests,” the firm noted.

Through partnership with women groups through workshops and other trainings, the company wants to share knowledge on how they can apply for the tenders and increase the uptake.
