A total of 1,000 participants are expected in Nairobi for the World Farmers’ Organization (WFO) General Assembly, set for June 8–11, 2026 at the Safari Park Hotel.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Kenya National Farmers’ Federation (KENAFF) said it will host the meeting in collaboration with WFO, marking the first time the global assembly will be held in Kenya and the fourth time in Africa.

KENAFF said delegates will be drawn from about 90 countries, bringing together farmers, policymakers, private sector actors, innovators, academia and exhibitors to strengthen collaboration across the agricultural value chain and advance outcomes that support farmers.

KENAFF chief executive officer Dr Mwenda Mailutha said the federation plans to use the forum to showcase projects aimed at empowering farmers and promoting inclusivity, including initiatives supporting youth, women and other special interest groups.

“We are honored to be the local host for this flagship event for the global farming fraternity,” Mailutha said.

A local organising committee comprising members from the public, private and civil society sectors has been established to coordinate preparations.

Committee chair L. Nduati Kariuki said hosting the global gathering is expected to position Kenya as a strategic hub for agriculture on the international stage, adding that organisers are working with government ministries and departments to ensure the event’s success.

KENAFF national chairman Prof Kaburu M’Ribu said the meeting aligns with the government’s agenda to promote agriculture and food security as part of economic transformation.

KENAFF said its membership stands at about 1.4 million farmers across all 47 counties, organised in 11 regions and 42 commodity associations.
