The Kenya U17 girls’ team concluded their debut in the International Sports Federation (ISF) tournament with a commendable second-place finish after a hard-fought 6-4 defeat to hosts China in the final match at the Souyuwan Stadium in Dalian, China.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw during regular time, with Clotilda Auma scoring Kenya’s only goal, which led to a penalty shootout to decide the winner.

In the penalty shootout, Auma, Joy Marvelous, Faith Baraza, and Ruth Akinyi all found the back of the net for Kenya. Coach Fred Serenge praised his team’s performance, highlighting their ability to meet the high expectations placed upon them.

The players representing Kenya in this tournament were selected from the inaugural Talanta Hela U19 football tournament held last year. They had the opportunity to train in Spain in April 2024 under the guidance of international coaches.

This preparation paid off, as demonstrated by their impressive performances in the prestigious Costa Daurada Cup, where the boys’ team emerged as champions and the girls’ team secured second place.
