A group of Kenyan teachers who have secured job placements in the United States (US) were officially sent off by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.
Isaiya Kabira, Secretary of Investments and Entrepreneurship, and Irene Karari, Director of the Skills and Expertise Division at the ministry, attended the departure ceremony of the selected teachers.
The ministry highlighted that this initiative is pivotal in the government’s ongoing efforts to explore job opportunities abroad, aimed at advancing Kenya’s socio-economic development.
“In line with the mandate of @Diaspora_KE to promote the welfare of the Kenyan diaspora, the recruitment initiative offers comprehensive support during the transition period through pre-departure sessions,” said the ministry in a statement.
President William Ruto’s administration has been actively pursuing initiatives to facilitate the overseas employment of Kenyan labor. This includes a recent agreement with Germany to create 250,000 job opportunities, originally planned for implementation before June 2024.
The President has emphasized ongoing negotiations with several other countries to secure additional employment prospects for Kenyan youth, urging legislators from Kenya Kwanza to support these efforts effectively.
