Two young boys clad in matching black outfits, their late mother’s photo printed on their T-shirts, stood at her burial and delivered tributes that have since left thousands of Kenyans heartbroken.

A video of the moment circulated widely on social media, showing the two brothers standing side by side at the funeral, each flanked by adults who appeared to be relatives offering quiet support as the boys prepared to say their final goodbyes.

Son’s Words at Mum’s Graveside

The older of the two spoke first, his voice unsteady and his composure visibly strained as he gripped the microphone and addressed his mother for what would be the last time.

“My beloved mother, you fought for me in life; you were my life. I don’t even know what to say, Mum. If I had the power, I would wake you up, Mum, just so I could say goodbye. But Mum, your memories will never leave my mind, and your image will never fade from my eyes. Oh God, may You grant my mother peaceful rest. And that is all,” he said, tears streaming down his face as he finished.

After the elder boy’s tribute, the master of ceremonies handed the microphone to the younger son.

Having already started crying after watching his brother break down, the little one wiped his face, greeted those gathered and summoned the courage to speak.

“How are you all? I love my mum so much, and I pray she rests well and peacefully,” he said simply, his words landing with quiet devastation.

The clip drew an outpouring of grief and solidarity in the comment section, with Kenyans sharing their own pain and lifting the two boys up in prayer.

Fairuzah Hassan wrote:

“Very painful, aki, may God be their strength. Kifo wewe.”

Gloria Mugallo commented:

“I’ve remembered mine – never imagined I’d even get to 18 but God ni nani? Young man ni Jehovah atawalea! May you find healing and comfort. Lord come through for these little ones; wasiwai angukia mama Kambo wa kishetani.”

Ruth Ikou said:

“Ningekuwa mungu ningerudisha huyu mama uhai, the pain in that boy oiyee.”

Lyn Bae added:

“Dear Lord protect us, tuondolee roho ya mauti, tulee watoto wetu, tusiwaache wakiwa wadogo, spirit of premature death ishindwe.”
