Kenyans on Twitter have reacted to the car that Chief Justice Martha Koome was chauffeured into, to the Madaraka Day celebrations in Embu.
The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 GR sport has sparked online debates, with some questioning why she is using the ride, yet it is alleged the country has no money.
Outspoken Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi said that it was absurd for a country which is a poor third-world country, with kids sleeping without food spend $500,000 to buy a car.
“Tell me why a CJ of a poor third-world country where millions of kids sleep at night without food, with 1.5 million cases backlog, where it makes 10-15 yrs to hear a case and 6-12 months to deliver judgment will spend $500,000 to buy her 4th official car (cj has 2 Mercedes, 2 Parado and Land Cruiser and 3 to 4 escort cars) MADNESS!” he said.
A Twitter user by the name Godfrey said the CJ having an expensive official car is the true meaning of ‘waste’.

“Is this the true meaning of ” waste” or it’s the most prudent way to spend the shareholders’ scarce resources!?” he said.
In November 2019, former Chief Justice David Maraga while addressing the media said buying luxury cars is only considered a wastage of public funds when it concerns the Judiciary
Maraga said he has been disrespected for far too long.
“The CJ has no Mercedes car, we were told it’s waste yet the two Speakers of the National Assembly have them. I have a Mercedes 350, which is affordable to many while speakers of both houses have Mercedes 500,” he said.
“I have never owned a Mercedes myself and I am not bothered. Let the office be treated like the speakers and Uhuru’s office. We should not be taken to be like illegitimate children.”
