Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has criticized President William Ruto’s proposed government formation. In a statement posted on X on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Wamuchomba described Ruto’s idea of a broad-based government as an outdated political strategy. She further cautioned that incorporating some opposition members into the cabinet would lead to more crises for the country.
“The proposed government formation is a collection of Kenya’s problems brought together broad-based problems,” Wamuchomba said.
“This is an outdated political approach. We must seek to understand and interpret their script. They are the majority of Kenyans. Anyway, it’s a broad-based political chess board. Let the gameplay.”
The vocal lawmaker further questioned the increase in wealth of the former Cabinet Secretaries who have been re-appointed by Ruto to join the broad-based cabinet.
Wamuchomba stated that it is only gamblers that can accrue over Ksh100 million more in one year without doing business and with no tax account paid.
“It’s the only lottery that can give you Ksh 100 million more in one year without doing business and no account of Tax paid. Are all those Former Cs with increased wealth of over Ksh 100 Million gamblers, I wonder? “she asked.
The United Democratic Movement (UDA) legislature further slammed the members of the Committee on Appointment for not bothering to probe further into the miraculous wealth increase.
“Do we have any conscience left in leadership in Kenya? MPs can smile as they listen to how one’s wealth increased miraculously and don’t bother to probe further,” Wamuchomba said.
The vocal legislature faults the president for ignoring the demands of the anti-government protestors adding that Ruto should not have re-appointed CSs from the previous cabinet.
She added that young protesters are patriots who do not appreciate tribal and regional balancing.
“Gen Z protestors demanded a new cabinet not reshuffled. Ignoring their demand is very worrying. These young patriots don’t appreciate tribal and regional balancing,” She said.
On July 19, 2024, during a press briefing, Ruto revealed that the formation of a broad-based cabinet would help his administration drive the urgently needed and irreversible transformation of the country.
“I have started the process of forming a new, broad-based cabinet to assist me in driving the urgently needed and irreversible transformation of our country,” Ruto said.
