A middle-aged man from Chesingoro village in Kusumek, Kericho County, is presently being detained at Litein Police Station after he was caught defiling his niece, a one-and-a-half-year-old baby girl.
According to Kusumek sub-location Assistant Chief Alfred Korir, the man – identified as Justice Kipsigei Cheruiyot – was nabbed while on the act inside his cubicle.
Korir said the suspect was staying with his sister, the mother of the baby girl, at her home. He was nabbed by his sister and members of the public who heard the baby’s distress calls.
The administrator said the child had been left behind by her mother as she went to perform other chores outside the house. It was then that the suspect took the baby girl inside the cubicle and defiled her.
The Chief said the mother did not suspect that his own brother could turn against her daughter and perform such a beastly act on her.
Irate members of the public gave a thorough beating to the suspect before handing him over to the police.
The child was rushed to Kapkatet hospital from where she was later transferred to the Kericho County Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.
Korir warned families against leaving their young children behind even to people they trust, saying the same could lead to such vices.
