Kericho Members of County Assembly (MCAs) staged a walkout during an event set to be graced by President William Ruto on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.
According to a local media house, the MCAs claimed they were instructed to exit the function since they were posing a ‘security threat’ to Ruto who was yet to arrive.
The Head of State is in Kericho for the commissioning of multi-million Duka Moja and Kimugu water treatment plants.
“We were told that since we are a security threat we move outside, and so we are moving out so that we give them space,” one of the MCAs told the local media house.
The project which cost Ksh1.2 billion was funded by the National government and Lake Victoria South water works.
It is projected to produce 13 million litres of water per day. The waterworks are expected to supply fresh clean water to over 200,000 households and help reduce water shortage in the region.
“The 50km distribution pipeline covers the areas of Kapsoit-Borborwet, Kapcheptoror-Kaptebeswet, Kakiptui, Kisumu road-Kapsoit and Kipchimchim-Ainamoi.”
