A 17-year-old girl from Bureti, Kericho County, has been missing since Tuesday, leaving her family and community in anguish after she reportedly boarded a boda boda and vanished without a trace.
Maureen Chepkoech, popularly known by her nickname Chelel, is a Grade 10 student at Korongoi Girls and hails from Tebesonik, in the Bakoiyot area of Bureti Sub-county.
Where was Maureen last seen?
According to a Facebook post by Koech Manasseh published on Friday, September 4, 2026, Maureen left behind a handwritten note before her disappearance, though her family has chosen not to reveal its contents.
Witnesses placed Maureen at Barabara, a local road junction, where she was seen getting onto a boda boda motorcycle that was already transporting a woman.
The identities of both the rider and the female passenger remain unknown, and neither has come forward since the incident.
Maureen’s mum files missing report at Cheborgei Police Station
No one in the immediate community appears to have recognised the motorcycle or its occupants, leaving investigators with very few leads to follow.
Maureen’s mother waited through Tuesday before acting, then proceeded to Cheborgei Police Station on Wednesday morning to formally report her daughter missing.
Officers there directed her to report the matter at Tebesonik instead.

She is described as a young student who was in school and had no prior history of going missing.
