Two main suspects linked to the assault of Mellen Mogaka at a graveside in Nyamira County have been arrested.
Jeremiah Motari alias Mogaka, who was captured on camera assaulting Mellen, was finally nabbed alongside his co-accused Edward Moseti Ogendi.
Covering their faces using face masks, the two suspects in the assault incident that shocked the nation last month made their way to the dock on Thursday.
Motari, who hit the headline as the man who allegedly mishandled Mellen in a tea plantation before taking her to the graveside where more mourners joined in assaulting her and forcing her to throw sand in the grave, was the first to face Nyamira Senior Resident Magistrate Bernard Ondego.
Moseti also had his day in court after over a month of being pursued by detectives.
The duo denied the charges of torture and assault which resulted to body harm and were released on a Ksh.50,000 cash bail.
Seven other suspects linked to the case and who were arrested and released last month were also presented in court where their case was mentioned.
The court has directed that the case against the nine suspects be mentioned on May 12, 2025.
Mellen Mogaka, who is still recovering following the humiliating incident at the burial of her former husband, is hopeful that justice will finally be done.
