Police in Kikuyu, Kiambu County have launched a manhunt to arrest a 25 years old woman who is suspected to have killed her 5-month-old son.
Metrin Chepkemwoi is believed to have hit her defenceless son with a blunt object on Monday night before fleeing and leaving him for the dead.
According to Kikuyu Sub-County police boss Ronald Kirui, the assailant texted her husband Duncan Nambuluku who is a watchman at Rironi in Limuru telling him that she had left their rented house and that she had left the deceased behind.
“Upon returning home, he was shocked to find the toddler lying in a pool of blood on the bed before raising the alarm with tens of neighbours responding to his distress call,” he said.
According to neighbours, the couple was undergoing a frosty relationship with the husband being subjected to numerous beatings by the suspect.
“Husband battery is real. This man has time without number been rescued by neighbours being beaten up by his wife,” said a source who sought anonymity.
The source further said that the suspect had been threatening to kill her son more often than not and that she had also planned to abort him.
“The lady who is a born-again Christian had even been taking the kid to her husband’s place of work at night and leaving him there. She had actually confided with a friend that he had intended to terminate the pregnancy before she gave birth,” said the anonymous source.
The toddler’s body was taken to the city mortuary to await a postmortem examination before laying it to rest.
The suspect, hailing from West Pokot, is said to have left two other kids at her rural home before relocating to Kikuyu about two years ago.
