Two women were brought before the Malindi Law Court on Friday and charged with arranging the marriage of a minor in Kanagoni village, Magarini, Kilifi County.

Appearing before Resident Magistrate Namnyak Nkurrunah, the women pleaded not guilty to the charges. They were granted bail at Ksh.80,000 in cash or Ksh.150,000 in bond each.

Court documents indicate that the women, along with others not present in court, were involved in arranging the marriage of a 13-year-old girl in Kanagoni, Magarini sub-county. The accused, who are the mothers of the young bride and the groom, were apprehended while planning the wedding.

Kilifi County Police Commander Fatma Hadi has issued a stern warning to parents, urging them to refrain from such practices and to instead ensure their children attend school.

The case is scheduled for mention on the 22nd of this month.
