The institution announced that the world’s outstanding marathoner will be honoured with an honorary doctorate degree in Human Letters .Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology confirmed that Eliud Kipchoge is among the graduands in its 41st graduation .
It also noted that the athlete’s dedication to philanthropy and humanitarian causes through his foundation has positively impacted the lives of many .
World’s Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) for his outstanding sports records.The institution said that Kenya’s best marathon athlete would be conferred an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters ( Honoris Causa), during the 41st graduation on Friday, December 1.
Kipchoge’s outstanding records
In October 2019, Guinness World Records paid tribute to Kenya’s long-distance runner for covering 42 km in 1:59:40. Eliud broke the world record at the INEOS 1:59 challenge at Pratar Park in Vienna, Austria.
“Eliud Kipchoge has made history by becoming the first person to run a marathon distance in under two hours. The 34-year-old Kenyan long-distance runner completed 26.2 miles in 1 hour 59 minutes 40 seconds at the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria,” it said on its official website.
The world’s record holder expressed joy in a social media post that the marathon was a dream come true. In the latest record in 2023, he emerged as the winner at the event held in Germany after completing the race in 2:02:42. “To be the first to win the Berlin Marathon five times is something that I could only dream of when I started my career.
We have so much history together that I cannot put into words the feeling I get when running these streets. Thank you to all the fans out on the course today. I heard all of your cheers. You motivate me to keep pushing. Berlin, my special place,” he wrote.
