Police in Kirinyaga County are investigating the case of a 25-year-old man whose body was discovered with severe facial injuries in a rice farm canal in Mahiga-ini village, Mwea constituency. The man, identified as Joseph Munyi Wairimu, had been missing for five days before residents found his body.

Mwea-East Sub-County Police Commander Patrick Nyaanga confirmed that the body was discovered near the KALRO farm by locals who were cutting grass. “We have initiated investigations to determine what happened to Munyi,” said Nyaanga.

Residents, led by village elder Gathee Muriithi, said Munyi went missing on August 14th, and his mother, along with villagers, had been searching for him. Munyi worked as a cleaner at a local hotel in Ngurubani town.

“We are shocked that someone could kill him and dump his body in a rice farm canal,” Muriithi stated. Mary Nyawira, a colleague, added, “He seemed fine when he left Ngurubani, so I suspect foul play, but we await the results of the police investigation.”

The body has been taken to Kibugi Funeral Home in Kutus for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
