A family in Kirinyaga is in agony after their child’s three fingers were cut off in surgery following admission to the hospital.

The boy’s father, Noor Juma, said, his son had been admitted due to pneumonia two weeks ago.

“He received an injection and his hand started to swell and he was operated on twice and then we were told that his three fingers had to be cut off,” he said on Tuesday.

Juma said he was told his son had to be operated on to save his hand and he agreed to it.

However, he said the boy was operated on again and three fingers were cut.

A relative by the name of Ismael Asman, said, “When we first brought the child to hospital, it was a case of pneumonia. We want to get to the bottom of this because this child is innocent and did not deserve to have this happen. Worse still, it is the right hand.”

The hospital is yet to respond to the complaint.
