Police officers in Mwea are investigating the murder of Simon Nyaga, 57, who was reportedly waylaid and attacked on his way home on Saturday.
His body was discovered by the roadside by passersby on their way to the Togonye shopping centre in Mwea.
Mwea-east sub-county police commander Daniel Kitavi confirmed the incident on Sunday and appealed to the public to volunteer information that may assist in the probe.
‘The body has been taken to Kibugi funeral home Kutus waiting postmortem ‘ The motive of the killing could not be immediately established ‘ Kitavi said.
According to the family of the deceased, the late Nyaga’s body had stab wounds on the back of his head and face.
His brother, Fidesious Njiru, said the murder had puzzled them as there appeared to no clear motive as he was not robbed.
“My brother Nyaga is a father just like any other person in the village and the assailants did not steal anything as he had nothing.” Njiru said.
“I received the sad news of my brother’s murder at Kianyaga in Gichugu with great shock since Nyaga was a quiet man,” Sicily Wanjiru, a sister to the deceased told the media.
His family, who suspect he may have been killed by people familiar to him, now wants the authorities to expedite investigations into the gruesome killing.
