An alleged drug dealer who has been operating in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County, for the past five years on Friday surrendered himself to local authorities.

The man turned himself in after after Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari called him out two weeks ago.

The suspect is alleged to have visited the MP’s office with an apology letter in hand and three clergy men in tow.

He similarly presented the same letter to Kirinyaga Central Deputy County Commissioner Daniel Ndege.

In the letter, seen by Citizen Digital, the man confessed to selling bhang in the area while asking to be pardoned for his transgressions.

“I can assure you that this will not be a repeat incident. I have respect for the law as well as officers of the law. I understand that you were just doing your duty to protect the community when you called me out,” the letter signed by the suspect and the three men of the cloth reads in part.

“If I can be of any help to you and the community, please feel free to contact me. I am ready to co-operate and campaign against drugs.”

Local police officers called for the man to be charged, but Gitari is said to have asked that he be pardoned because he voluntarily turned himself in.

“I am calling upon all drug dealers in the region to surrender themselves; if they do so they will be pardoned just like how the state does when telling illegal firearm holders to surrender their guns to authorities. If they don’t heed this call we will go after all of them,” said Gitari.
