Residents of Mutithi village in Mwea, Kirinyaga County are still in shock after human body parts were retrieved from the Kanaro river within the locality .
The discovery of the body parts was made by residents who had ventured out to fetch water.
The matter was immediately reported to Wamumu location chief Godfrey Mithamo who then informed police officers at Kiamaciri police station.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Elsewhere, police officers in Kirinyaga are probing a similar incident in which human body parts were discovered strewn on a rice field by farmers.
Police officers in the area have asked residents to report any incidents of missing persons in order to determine the identity of the bodies.
Mwea west sub county Deputy police commander Sammy Beauttah said after the water supply to the rice paddy was shut off, they discovered other body parts which have now been moved to the Kerugoya hospital mortuary.
The body parts have yet to be identified although a family from Kiuria village has reported a missing family member whom they claim may have been killed over money.
Relatives led by Joseph Njenga said they are sure the remains belong to his uncle ‘ We suspect he was killed over ksh 66,000 he had. ‘ Njenga said.
The Deputy police boss said the family will identify the body parts on Wednesday morning at the Kerugoya Mortuary amid investigations.
