Mercy Prudence Baika Mutie, a resident of Ngurubani town in Kirinyaga County, has been arraigned before the Wang’uru Principal Magistrate’s Court, where she faced five counts of obtaining money by false pretences.
Mutie appeared before Principal Magistrate S.K. Kandie on Monday and denied all charges. She was represented by lawyer John Baptista Kanga.
The charges, brought under Section 313 of the Penal Code, allege that Mutie fraudulently obtained money from several individuals by falsely promising to help them secure employment in the National Police Service (NPS).
According to the prosecution, the accused received varying amounts from her alleged victims, including Ksh.400,000, Ksh.100,000, Ksh.600,000, and Ksh.500,000.
The complainants named in the case include Dorris Njoki Njiru, Harrison Njenga Njuguna, and Maureen Kariuki Njeru.
Mutie was released on a bond of Ksh.500,000, with a surety of a similar amount.
The case is scheduled for mention on March 24, 2026, with the hearing set for June 23, 2026.
