Kisii County Woman Representative Donya Aburi has condemned the weekly anti-government protests spearheaded by Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking in Kitutu Chache South while distributing food to needy students and families, Aburi said the weekly demos have become deadly and dangerous.

“Kenyans have not benefited from the protests since they began. It has only left a trail of destruction and loss of lives. A mother is now going to bury his son after being shot by the police,” she said.

According to Aburi, the protests have only paralysed business and educational operations in major cities in Kenya.

“Our children are unable to go to school. Our mothers are not able freely to operate their businesses for fear of looting.”

The county MP has urged Raila Odinga to explore other options saying he squandered the only clear path to State House after losing in the 2022 election.

“Azimio leaders should ask themselves why we were defeated in the 2022 presidential election when we had a clear path to State House. Taking Kenyans to the streets will not solve anything,” Aburi added.

Raila Odinga has since maintained that he will not call off the weekly protests until his demands for a high cost of living and the opening of IEBC servers are addressed.

“We cannot be intimidated by William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua. I want to tell them that I fought for the second liberation in this country. The two cannot understand what I have gone through. I was arrested, charged in court and went to prison in 1983 but was discharged for lack of evidence. I have been fighting for democracy and was put in detention for eight years when some of them were still breastfeeding,” Mr Odinga said.
